Age of Debra Jeter

Born on November 20, 1962, in Randolph County, Georgia, Debra Jeter is nearing her 60th birthday.  Billy Jeter and Palona Jeter were her parents. Debra held a position as a program specialist in academic affairs at West Georgia Technical College. The beginning of Debra’s relationship with Lester, also known as Lee, remains unknown. However, their love story didn’t end happily, as Lee filed for divorce in May 2009.

According to a neighbor residing next to the Jeters, disturbances and occasional calls to the police were common in their household. Following Debra’s suicide attempt on May 31, 2009, in the presence of her children, Lee became concerned about their safety and sought a restraining order against her. However, less than three weeks after the restraining order was lifted, the court granted Debra unsupervised visitation rights. Tragically, during one of these visits, the two innocent little girls were in grave danger.

The unfortunate events

On June 5, 2005, Debra Jeter picked up her two daughters from their father, promising them a surprise. Oblivious to their mother’s sinister intentions, the girls were excited to spend time with her. Unbeknownst to them, Debra led them to an abandoned farmhouse near Interstate 35. Once inside, Debra revealed a knife and launched an attack, targeting Kiersten first. Despite being under assault, Kiersten bravely urged her sister to flee.

However, Debra continued her onslaught and inflicted a stab wound on Kiersten’s back while defending her younger sibling, Kelsey. Tragically, the relentless attack led to Kelsey’s throat being mercilessly slit. Debra then turned her attention to the injured Kiersten, repeating the same violent act. Despite pleading for her mother to seek help, Kiersten, a licensed nurse, remained alive.

The chilling 911 call

Following the heinous act, Jeter dialed 911 to report the murder, confessing that she had just taken her children’s lives. While informing the emergency operator, she expressed the urgency of saving one of her daughters, who still needed immediate assistance. During the distress call, Jeter could be heard consoling Kiersten and pleading with the operator to ensure the police did not shoot her as she was unarmed.  She was promptly apprehended, and due to concerns for her well-being, she was placed under suicide watch at the Hill County Law Enforcement Center.

Debra Jeter’s sentence

The court set Debra Jeter’s bond at $1.5 million after she was charged with murder and attempted capital murder. In May 2010, she pleaded guilty and accepted a plea agreement that ensured a life sentence without the possibility of parole. As part of the plea deal, her daughter Kiersten was spared from testifying about her mother’s brutality and the potential for a death sentence.

The motive behind Debra’s actions was allegedly rooted in her desire for revenge against her ex-husband Lester during their prolonged divorce and custody battle. She reportedly confessed to targeting the children to make Lester suffer, hoping to spare them from enduring the pain of both the divorce and custody dispute.
